Social Media Editor (Half-time), Pop-Up Magazine and The California Sunday Magazine

Pop-Up Magazine Productions is conducting a search for a half-time social media editor to support our acclaimed live show, Pop-Up Magazine, and weekend magazine, The California Sunday Magazine. Our social media editor may choose to work remotely or in our San Francisco office. 

The California Sunday Magazine produces deeply reported stories and beautiful photography from across California, the West, Asia, and Latin America. Launched in late 2014, California Sunday has been a finalist for seven National Magazine Awards, including Magazine of the Year in 2017, and a winner three times, twice for photography. Pop-Up Magazine is a live magazine, a night of new, live-scored, multimedia stories performed by writers, radio producers, photographers, and filmmakers at large theaters across the country, like the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco, and the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. We have also collaborated on live magazine performances with Beck, ESPN, and the TED Conference. 

Our social media editor will be responsible for leading strategy across all social platforms, including email newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with an emphasis on growth. (This is a half-time job because we produce a comparatively small number of stories and events and work hard to make each one memorable.) You will work closely with senior editorial staff at both California Sunday and Pop-Up Magazine to schedule stories and events, think creatively about ways to make the most out of each social platform as a unique editorial medium, and engage with our audience. You will help define our voice on these platforms, write all social content, and draw on all available data to help Pop-Up Magazine and California Sunday grow audience and increase the impact of our journalism. You will also have the opportunity to participate in story meetings and contribute creatively to Pop-Up Magazine Productions in a variety of ways. 

You should be a clear, direct writer, and show a sophisticated understanding of social engagement, analytics, and audience development.
